The Things We Won't Say

How many times have you found yourself holding back from expressing your true thoughts or feelings?

How many times have you heard that little voice in your head saying: "Not Now. There's no room for this now," "You'll come out ridiculous saying that," or simply, "Just keep it to yourself."

You can sit with strangers or close friends, putting aside what weighs heavy on your chest in the name of fitting in, not being exposed, appearing strange, or being too much.

Those things we won't say are written within us, and we push them down, sometimes violently, hoping that by doing that, they will go away or won't surface for a while. But they are not going anyway, not really.

The series of Graphite drawings called "The Things We Won't Say" comes to give expression to those crumpled unspoken words.

The notes in the series are representations of notes written by various people who took a moment to write their hidden unspoken words. The process of letting the words out on paper gives them life, but then the person takes the note and crumples it, having the tangible experience of hiding their truth. Then, all participants in the project have a choice; keeping things hidden or giving them a voice beyond the paper.

"The Things We Won't Say" gives our inner selves a space to be.

* Some of the notes' content will be exposed in the future, and then we will have the chance to see how similar we are.
